When was the last time you bought something online? If you’ve forgotten the answer, then maybe you’ve been a little negligent about your cyberlife lately.

Nowadays, almost everything is done online. Online is how you pay bills, buy cat food, compare swatches of paint color, research about seafood and fifteenth century art, shop for used cars, watch uncut versions of music videos, ego-search your name, find a roommate and homes for rent, post classified ads for your slightly-used tennis racket, search for possible baby boy names, manhunt for a long-lost schoolmate in third grade, and endless other things you can do with a few taps at the keyboard and the mouse. The fact that you’re reading this article online proves that you are very much in touch with the virtual world.

Water is most precious in Australia as the continent is prone to severe periods of drought. When traveling the scorchy Outback, you’ll learn to appreciate just how valuable water is.

Carry and drink plenty of water in your travel. Remember that the body’s thirst mechanism is set on delay, which means by the time your brain tells you you’re thirsty, your body has suffered from minor dehydration already. In the exceptionally high temperatures of the Outback, dehydration could occur more rapidly than you expect.

Rule of thumb: Carry four litres of water per day per person.

Non-perishables
Have more than enough food supply to last you in your journey in the Outback. It’s better to have some supplies left over rather than pack just enough. Food is essential especially in rough unknown surroundings, or if you are lost and have no idea what the distance is to the next township.

Take items which are only non-perishables though, like ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables, and high energy foods like peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars. Make sure you have a can opener or knife for cutting open foil and plastic pouches. Pack food in plastic zipper bags to keep them dry and as airtight as possible.

Petrol Consumption
Always have your car on full tank. And have some spare petrol at hand, too, as petrol stations are few and far between in the Aussie Outback, and the trading hours are very short. A good advice is that chart your petrol consumption before you leave.

Mobile phones
True to their name, mobile phones should go with you as you trek the Outback. But a dead mobile phone isn’t very much use to anyone, so don’t forget to take a charger that can be used in the car’s lighter. In some places of the Outback, you may not get a signal, in which case a Citizen’s Band radio may come in handy on your journey.

Buying a PC? With hundreds of brands and models out there, the choice is just overwhelming. You don’t want to end up with something puny, but neither do you want something too loaded with features that you don’t need anyway. How to start then?

When you’re buying a computer, the first thing to decide is whether you need a desktop or a laptop. With that out of the way, you need to know then which features you want in your computer, as well as which PC manufacturer you want.

The primary benefit of buying a Windows-based PC is the popularity of the Microsoft Windows operating system. These computers have been top-of-the-line in terms of software compatibility, claiming about 90% of the market share. Most software application developers think about Windows first, while Mac second.

However the Apple Mac computer does have some advantages with regards to speed and performance. The Macintosh performs extremely well in terms of graphical editing, video, and multimedia, making more efficient use of memory and processing power. Macintoshes might have quite a number of profound strengths, but because of their low market share they can sometimes be found wanting in regards to compatibility with mainstream business software.

Once you’ve decided on the PC, the next thing to consider is the price. Be aware that computer manufacturers have a price tag that represents the barest bones computer and most probably, you’ll end up paying hundreds more dollars than the initial price tag once you have included all the configurations you need. Don’t be fooled by believing you have great value because of all the software that is included. Often you don’t need half of it.

Finally, consider the tech support offered by the company after purchase of your PC. Remember, you may get a really great deal, but if the computer breaks down, will you get the after sales support you need?

Garage sales never go out of style. It’s unlikely that you haven’t been to a few yourselves. If you like the thrill of bargain-hunting and free classifieds, then you probably won’t mind doing the selling for a change. Holding a garage sales doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be experienced in marketing; you just have to be confident.

While there really is no ultimate rule in displaying items, just spend just a few minutes thinking about what you’re selling, dust or clean them, then organize. This will help you sell more stuff at a considerably higher price. When it comes to rules in deciding which stuff to sell, there is none: anything can sell, what is junk to you may be treasure to someone else. Just make sure you won’t regret selling the stuff later on. A good idea is to browse free online classifieds and see what people are currently interested in buying (and selling), and then go by that.

Don’t just put everything out randomly. Ideally, you don’t want people moving things around on their own; you don’t want people left to their own devices making a mess of your system. If you can keep people from rummaging about, in, and underneath your carefully organized displays, you will save yourself many reorganizing headaches later.

* Beg, borrow, or ‘steal’ trestle tables so you can display items carefully and in full sight of prospective buyers.

* Use old Hills Hoist and coat hangers to display clothes.

* Group items by price. Again, check out free online classifieds to see how different items are normally priced according to model, integrity, slightly-used ness, rarity, etc.

* When pricing, give yourself some leeway of a few dollars. That way, hagglers will feel they got a bargain.

* Display books with their front covers or spines showing for easy recognition.

* Divide tables into areas for different price ranges and put signs up letting people know what and where the items are.

* The arrangement should make it easier for your customers to find what they need, and what they want. Be sure to put like things together and give people enough space to move around freely.

* Let your kids be entrepreneurs too and have them sell their own stuff. Set up a separate table for them. You’ll probably find they will do a lot better than you will.

* At the end of the tables, prior to walking out with the goods, have a vigilant cashier who’ll bag the items and take the cash. This will prevent items from being shoplifted.

Finally, post a classified ad about your garage sale so people will know about it. State the opening date, the venue, and a few helpful descriptions about what you’re selling. You can run a classified advertisement on your local paper, and for sheer broadcasting scope, go via the Internet.

And remember to have fun. After all, garage sales are the perfect way/excuse to meet the neighbours and make new friends. Now people know you and you have just ran the biggest free classifieds for yourself.

Choosing pets is an important choice to make and is no easy task. It’s not just a matter of looking up pets for sale in your handy classifieds paper or online classifieds and picking the first thing you set your eyes on. You don’t just buy pets as would buy grocery, so make sure your heart doesn’t rule your head when you sight that cuddly little puppy or kitten. Getting a pet is involving your life with it, committing yourself into a relationship with it, so consider the needs of the animal and the time and cost involved in its ongoing care. Before buying pets for sale, decide what you want from the pet. Do you want a companion; do you want an animal for showing or competing with, or maybe an animal for protection?

Caring for Pets 101
You need to provide a safe and happy environment in which the animal can live. If you choose a large animal it is necessary to have a big outdoor enclosure to keep it active.

You will need to register your pet with your local Council to ensure its return should it get lost.

Have your pet de-sexed, preferably before six months old if it is not going to be used for breeding, or take steps to ensure that it will not breed unwanted litters.

Proper care for you pet includes proper and balanced diet, cool clean drinking water, and grooming.

If you have children, teach them the responsibilities of owning a pet. Share responsibility for looking after your pet amongst all family members. Socialise your pet with other animals and people, but remember not everyone is an animal lover, and you need to keep your pet under control when in public.

Keep your pet confined to your property at all times and be aware cats should be kept indoors at night (house, shed or garage).

When you go on holidays if you can’t take your pet with you, ensure you find suitable accommodation where you know your pet will be well cared for. Choose a boarding kennel or cattery registered with your local Council.

Protect your pet’s health by having regular check-ups from your local vet, and ensure you provide the required vaccination.

Most of all shower your pet with love and attention, as simple as that. Remember, your pet is a family member now, and no longer just an animal you find in pets for sale ads.
