We all know that DVD is still the reigning technology in optical media. But today, there are already battle between the two future technology format of optical media. The rival are already begin between Blu Ray and HD DVD. With regards on the two camp, they want to be the leading optical media format next to DVD. But for us, what will be our choice. Blu Ray or HD DVD? Who are in favor of Blu Ray? How about in HD DVD? In claiming who is the best between the two, for me they are the same and there are only quiet differences to each other.

Both Blu ray and HD DVD use the same kind of 405nm wavelength blue-violet laser but they are differs in optics which determine in two ways: Blu ray has tighter track pitch and have a pick up apertures of 0.85 versus the 0.65 apertures of HD DVD. But with regards on the cost of the two, Blu ray discs are more expensive than HD DVD. But Blu ray can hold more data than HD DVD.

For you to know the difference between the two camps of competing video technology format. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of Blu Ray and HD DVD. The advantages of Blu ray are having a huge storage capacity which able to store more data than HD DVD. It has also mandatory managed copy which deals on the Digital Rights Management that focus on copyright protection in order to prevent piracy. Blu ray have backwards compatibility also which allows users to read and write CDs, DVDs, and Blu ray disc. And have the high quality support which Sony and Philips are the strongest backers of Blu Ray. And some other corporations are support the Blu Ray like Apple, Dell, and Panasonic. About the disadvantages of the Blu Ray, of course it has something to do with the price of it. Blu ray is more expensive that HD DVD. Blu Ray also cannot play the HD DVD format. And in some way of finding an economical price of the two technology, Blu Ray might be on the risk because HD DVD is competing with lesser cost and almost the same quality of features with Blu Ray. So, the buyer is more prepare to buy HD DVD because its quiet the same with Blu Ray and can purchase the HD DVD for almost half of the price of Blu Ray.

And for the HD DVD camp, the advantage of it is something to do in its name alone, HD DVD is more consumer friendly. It carries the seam structure as current DVDs. So, the DVD manufacturing lines can be upgrade or convert into HD DVD. HD DVD is simple and cost-effective than Blu ray. And about the disadvantages of HD DVD. It can’t boast the same storage capacity as Blu ray. And about the structure of the Disc of HD DVD, the HD DVD-RW is go up to 32GB which is different to its HD DVD-R disc that has only single layer about 15GB. And same with Blu Ray, the movie of Sony pictures and other movie pictures that incorporate with Blu ray are cannot be played on HD DVD.
