Sites with .edu and .gov as their domains though are restricted to government agencies and educational institutions, and as such information gathered from them are more reliable and authoritative. Note, though, that some educational institutions allow students to publish pages under the .edu domain, and the institution may not vet that information.

There are millions of Internet pages and some have been around for a very long time. These are the so-called dead websites littering the Internet whose owners have either forgotten, grown tired of maintaining, or completely abandoned. Whenever you access a website, checking its publication date to know that the information you’re getting is up-to-date.
