$70 million loss on Australian online classifieds last 2009

From the ACCC survey recently, most of the Australian has experienced scams that have been asking for a large amount of money for the business transactions in online classifieds. This bad experience started last year and Aussies are in need to be more cautious on dealing through online classifieds.

Almost 20,554 cases has been filed according the report from National Consumer Fraud Week. This number of cases has been filed from last year and unfortunately these scams have been a resulted in a total of $70 million that was loss in the advertising industry in Australia.

From ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission), 54 percent of complaints has came to presents file cases about the scams they have experienced from surprising gifts, as well as opportunities to do with sweepstakes, romance, and jobs. Most of the scams targeted small business operators with give them word of business opportunities. Reports on the scams filed had increased unhappily targeted small business operators with promises of business opportunities.

The scams is said to be started on auction sites and online classifieds and last 2009 this has been doubled up according to the ACCC reports. The majority of victims stated that they loss between $1,000 and $9,999 to scam. Fifteen people said they had lost upwards of $500,000, of which two people said they had lost more than $10 million.
