Online Job Advertising Stabilized

While the rest of online advertising industries have been experiencing a consistent shrinkage, the online job market has stabilized at about 2.23 million advertised jobs a month.

According to the Conference Board, this was a far cry from the figures two years ago where online job ads peaked at 4.27 million in September 2007. A major dip was experienced in December 2008 to January 2009 where the online job ads slid to about 1.2 million per month. This was well below the 2008 average of 4.5 million job advertisements per month.

“Online job demand has held relatively steady at around 3.3 million advertised vacancies per month for the last six months,” says Conference Board Senior Economist Gad Levanon.

“While we are not seeing declines, the sluggish nature of labor demand is another indication that the path to recovery is likely to remain a long haul.”

The strongest growth for online advertising has been experienced by the sales industry which posted 375,000 job ads in July. This is followed by management jobs, which had 9,400 openings. Other strong industries include healthcare practicioners and those that fall within the category of arts, design, entertainment, sports and media.
